Nature and lonliness

Rob Richards

Loneliness is something that we all may experience in our lives at some point, but when feelings of loneliness and disconnection become the daily norm, quality of life is significantly reduced.  Our fast-paced digital obsessive lifestyle rarely offers an opportunity for connection with ourselves let alone real connection with others.

Humans have had a profound and deep-rooted relationship with nature for millennia providing a source of safety, belonging, companionship, connection and hope.

More than a place to recreate, nature is grounded in our DNA and an essential element of our spiritual and emotional wellbeing and social connection. Nature connection is an antidote to loneliness and isolation. Where society can be ruthless in social acceptance, nature does not judge, you can be who you truly are in nature. The mechanisms of modern-day society can leave you feeling closed in and alone. Nature offers open space to breathe, to think to move and to let your mind and body be free. Nature enables us to be connected, to belong and feel a part of something so much bigger, something enduring and something deep inside us that says “I’m home”.
